Hand cut mats: I have plenty of examples to show the effect of handcuts, from the sculptural appeal to matching the extended flow of the art work. With most handcuts, I apply a French or colored line around the handcut opening to reestablish the rectangular of the frame and ‘encapsulate’ the needleart. Using suede matting requires another technique rather than a painted line. Ask me about these. In this category, I also include rounding out the corners of a rectangular mat opening, by hand, for a cathedral effect or general softening all around. You will see this technique used on many openings in all my categories.
