Needleart Framing: When a client spends so much time on creating that cross stitch or embroidery, I feel it appropriate to plan out a one of a kind presentation in the framing. Most needleworkers are careful in handling their fabrics, but there is sometimes a need to cover up various stains and hoop marks. This is when I suggest a hand cut mat, which I draw out and accomplish by hand…no computer cutting here. No matter the matting style, the stretching is most important. I use nothing but doubled rag matting as the substrate and stainless steel pins to secure. I use no adhesives and cringe at the popular use of sticky boards. A number of techniques are used for the stretching of different materials.
